  19. 1.  RUNNING THE SOFTWARE
  20. ------------------------
  21.      Wordsearch Mania! was written using VISUAL BASIC v3.0.  To run Wordsearch 
  22. Mania! v1.1, you will need the following files at a minimum:
  23.                     
  24.                WS.EXE - The Wordsearch Mania! executable
  25.                WS.CFG - Configuration file
  26.                WS.HLP - Windows help file for Wordsearch Mania!
  27.                THREED.VBX - Programming file
  28.                ANIBUTON.VBX - Programming file
  29.                VBRUN300.DLL - Run-time library for all VISUAL BASIC
  30.                               programs (not part of the original archive,
  31.                               need to download separately.  Can be found
  32.                               on many BBS's in your area)
  33.                DICTIONA.RY - Used to build puzzles with
  34.                PUZZLES.ZIP - An archive containing some puzzles for you to 
  35.                              solve
  36.  
  37. The following files are also included in the original archive, but are not
  38. necessary for program operation:
  39.  
  40.                WS.ICO - Icon file for Windows 
  41.                README.1ST - This File
  42.                ORDER.FRM - Fill out this form to register Wordsearch Mania!
  43.                HISTORY.TXT - Shows the programming evolution of this program
  44.                FILE_ID.DIZ - Description file, used by many BBS'es
  45.                WELCOME.WAV \
  46.                THANKYOU.WAV - Windows sound files
  47.                LOWBEEP.WAV /

  49. Do the following to install Wordsearch Mania!:
  50.  
  51.            1)  Create a directory on your hard disk to put the program 
  52.                in.  This can be done with the 'MD' command from DOS.  
  53.                For example, to create a directory called 'WRDSRCH' on 
  54.                your 'C' drive, move to the root directory ("C:\>") and type
  55.                'MD WRDSRCH'.  It is not recommended to run this program
  56.                from a floppy drive, it will run too slow.
  57.            
  58.            2)  Copy the files WS.EXE, WS.CFG, and WS.HLP into this 
  59.                directory.  You can put the files not necessary for program 
  60.                operation here as well.

  62.            3)  You can copy the puzzles from the archive PUZZLES.ZIP into the
  63.                directory just created, or you can create another directory
  64.                to put them in.  If you choose the latter, you will need to
  65.                tell the program where the puzzle files are located (See
  66.                'Set Paths' from the 'Options' menu).

  68.            4)  Copy the files THREED.VBX, ANIBUTON.VBX and VBRUN300.DLL to 
  69.                your \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.
  70.  
  71.            5)  Run WINDOWS, and select 'RUN' from the Program Manager
  72.                'File' menu.  Type 'WS' as the file to run.  Don't 
  73.                forget to include directory information if necessary.  
  74.                You can also create a 'program item' by selecting 'New'
  75.                from the 'File' menu.  An icon (WS.ICO) has been included
  76.                for this purpose.

  78. That's all there is to it!

  81. 2.  SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
  82. -----------------------
  83.      To run Wordsearch Mania!, you will need Windows 3.1 or better (3.0 is 
  84. not supported), approx 330K RAM free (plus 50K approx for each puzzle loaded), 
  85. and a mouse.

  88. 3.  PROGRAM REGISTRATION
  89. ------------------------
  90.      THIS PROGRAM IS NOT FREE!  You are invited to try Wordsearch Mania! v1.1
  91. for an evaluation period not to exceed 15 days.  If you continue to use the
  92. program after the time is up, YOU MUST REGISTER.
  93.      To REGISTER, please send the completed order form (ORDER.FRM) along with 
  94. a check or money order (NO CASH PLEASE!) for $19.99 + $4.00 S/H to the 
  95. following address:

  101.      Make out all checks to 'Michael J. Baker'.  Foreign orders will be 
  102. accepted, as long as the registration check is drawn on a U.S. or Canadian 
  103. bank (See the next two sections 'Registration online through Compuserve' and
  104. 'Registration with a Credit Card' if you cannot meet this criterion).  Please
  105. add $2.00 shipping for foreign orders ($6.00 US Currency). Registration 
  106. entitles you to the following three things:

  108.      1)  A free upgrade to the next version.  It will automatically be sent
  109.          to you the second it is finished!
  110.  
  111.      2)  All registration screens will be disabled in the program!
  112.  
  113.      3)  Even More Puzzles!  An archive full of puzzles (the number varies 
  114.          from day to day, but there will be a lot!) will be sent with your
  115.          registration disk.  When the next version of the program is sent to
  116.          you, a brand new archive of puzzles will be sent along with it!
  117.          Remember, you can also build your own puzzles to solve, or have the
  118.          computer build them for you!

  121. 4.  REGISTRATION ONLINE THROUGH COMPUSERVE
  122. ------------------------------------------
  123.      If you subscribe to Compuserve, you can register the program online, 
  124. with the registration fee charged to your Compuserve account.  Type
  125. 'GO SWREG', select 'Register Shareware' from the top menu, and follow the 
  126. instructions.  The name of the program is 'Wordsearch Mania! v1.1'.

  128.      Foreign orders will be accepted here.  Please note that all foreign
  129. orders will be charged $6.00 U.S. for shipping instead of the $4.00 charged
  130. to U.S. customers.

  133. 5.  REGISTRATION WITH A CREDIT CARD

  141.      PLEASE NOTE THAT THE ABOVE NUMBERS ARE FOR ORDERS ONLY!!  Any questions
